Whisking your love away for Valentine’s Day? Here are some of our favourite spots to stop along the way for intimate dinners and cosy coffees.

The Royal Oak

A friendly, well-presented village local near Loughborough with great food and a special Valentine’s set menu.

Askham Hall

An impossibly romantic setting, again in the Lakes, serving tea, cake and lunches in beautiful gardens. Book a room if you can’t drag yourself away from the idyll.

Black Swan

Roaring fires, excellent food and a guaranteed friendly welcome in the Howgill Fells.

The Applestore

A romantic Victorian greenhouse-turned-cafe serving generous homemade portions at breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea.

Finally been to the AppleStore Café in Scorton. First the elephant in the room: the weird name. Nothing to do with apples nor computers. It's a café, a wedding venue, a place where hikers, cake lovers and families hang out. The food area is a log burner heat conservatory split in three areas with lots of room, garden and forest paths leading to the lake and surrounded by the Wyresdale Park The café itself is decorated in a shabby chic "glamping" style, with a few bits that are more shabby than chic. Think mismatched wooden furniture, Cath Kidston print bunting and fairy lights. Food is in-cre-dible and portions are huge, with homemade scones the size of @jennaculsh's head. I can't wait to go there again and have cake! Sadly I was too stuffed after their small (read: huge) breakfast and pick from their mouthwatering selection of cakes Absolutely love the place but I think I prefer cosier and smaller "The Barn" also nestled in the cute village of Scorton #scorton #theapplestore
